Uncovered Communications Illustrate Epstein and Larry Summers as Close Associates
Numerous communications between found guilty sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein and former US treasury head Larry Summers have emerged this week, indicating the pair acted as close contacts.
These exchanges, covering 2013 to early 2019, reveal the two men sharing intimate â and at times improper â opinions on political matters and relationships.
âIâm trying to understand why [the] American elite think if u kill your baby by violence and desertion it must be not a factor to your admission to Harvard,â|âIâm trying to|I am attempting to|I'm struggling to} determine why [the] American elite think if u murder your baby by violence and neglect it must be unimportant to your admission to Harvard,â} Summers stated to Epstein in a 2017 message. Yet flirted with a few women 10 years ago and cannot work at a network or think tank. KEEP CONFIDENTIAL THIS IDEA.â
At that time, Harvard University was dealing with an admissions discussion after a once incarcerated womanâs enrollment to a PhD program. Summers, a former president of the university who lost his position amid a uproar after making sexist comments about female academics, continued in the email to Epstein: I noted that half of the IQ in [the] world was possessed by women without noting they are more than 51 percent of society.â
Summers was at one time a leading light in the Democratic Party circles â a ex- treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, one of the key designers of Barack Obamaâs approach to the financial crisis, and a steadfast voice in the progressive media. But concerns have remained about his association with Epstein, a former associate of Donald Trump. Epstein was charged with a broad sex trafficking of minors operation before his death in jail in 2019 in New York City.
Following the release of a earlier set of emails between Epstein and Summers in a 2023 article, a spokesperson for Summers commented that he âis very sorry for being in contact with Epstein after his convictionâ.
Democratic lawmakers made public emails from the Epstein estate this week that imply Epstein thought Trump was knew about conduct by the now-convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. In retaliation, Republican lawmakers issued a much bigger collection of 20,000 emails from the Epstein estate.
The released materials show that Summers kept up congenial contact with the adjudicated child sex trafficker well into 2019, with the last email exchange occurring only months before Epsteinâs detention.
Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday that he would be instructing the Department of Justice and the FBI to examine Epsteinâs âparticipation and associationâ with Summers, among other well-known liberal leaders and industry figures.
In the emails, Summers and Epstein talk about politics â especially Summersâs dislike for Trump â as well as the aspects of philanthropic social networking â and women. Summers, 70, confided in Epstein in a 2019 exchange about his overtures toward an unnamed woman, and being turned down.
âshes smart. making you pay for past errors,â Epstein replied in an exchange on 16 March. âoverlook the 'daddy' remark, I'm dating the motorcycle guy, you responded appropriately.. frustration signals affection., no protests revealed fortitude.â
Summers restated his sorrow in a recent statement. âI harbor significant regrets in my lifetime,â he commented. âIâve expressed this previously: my relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was a grave mistake.â
Summers was president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006. Epstein donated more than $9m to Harvard and its related programs between 1998 and 2008, and was named a visiting fellow to conduct research. The university later concluded Epstein âlacked the educational background visiting fellows normally possess and his application suggested a course of study Epstein was ill-equipped to pursueâ.
Harvard only stopped accepting Epsteinâs donations after he pleaded guilty to child sex offenses in 2008.
At that point Obamaâs star was rising. Summers would ultimately receive appointment as director of the White House NEC from January 2009 until November 2010.
After Summers exited the White House, he began soliciting Epstein for philanthropic advice for his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor pursuing a poetry project. Epstein and his foundations made gifts to projects associated with Summersâs wife, and the two men got together a twelve times between 2013 and 2016, often for dinner.
After reporting about Epsteinâs donations surfaced, Newâs charity made a donation âin excessâ of that received to anti-sex-trafficking organizations.
