Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
