This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,â stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
âUnless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,â she went on. âMay this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.â
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the regionâs Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â inspired by a hip-hop line â often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named âsix-sevenâ its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThe pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,â said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
âIt captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.â
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
