Supporters Demand Detainment of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are demanding that a person who breached a barricade and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, securing two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
