Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
