Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The large audience will enjoy a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Love and Generosity
The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Attending the service will be people from various age groups.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
