Tim Southee's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be present for the opening match due to his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's team for the first of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," he said.

"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the caliber of [the English] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

But, prior to the English team head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
