In a surprising partnership that breaks usual predictions, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the official release, "A strange confrontation draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome transformations reverberate through the shadows." The storyline introduces a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a hidden group.

The adventure centers on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Iconic Places and Changes

The preview highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer concludes with a powerful scene showing a character, probably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Bonus Material

Players who accomplish the quest will acquire an exclusive katana alongside several items secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Special implements
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Addition

This patch also introduces the game's latest complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a original environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This marks scarcely the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime properties. The series previously showcased a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that obviously nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
